NASCAR Legend. Vertical Manufacturer.
Richard Childress Racing is not only a leader in racing but a leading supplier of design-and-build and build-to-print services. With capabilities that range from engineering and design, 9-axis CNC machining to sheet metal fabrication, RCR provides state-of-the-art vertical solutions to the automotive, aerospace, military and industrial sectors.
When working with companies outside of motorsports, the idea is simple: take Richard Childress Racing’s knowledge and ability from motorsports and apply them to building parts and components for others. Our capabilities are vast, but our focus is narrow: to produce the highest quality products to meet your needs.
Bringing the Speed and Precision of NASCAR to Other Industries
While there may be shops with parts of the Richard Childress Racing’s capability set very few that have them all under one roof, even fewer have the experience and culture of RCR. We bring the speed and precision of the NASCAR supply chain to other industries, including the aerospace, defense, and other high-tech sectors.
We can design, reverse engineer, prototype, and manufacture at volume a wide range of components across a variety of materials. Our vertical process allows us to maintain the quality, consistency, durability, and repeatability through the entire project life cycle.
Who We Are
Established in 1969 as a NASCAR race team, Richard Childress Racing (RCR) is one of the largest and most storied organizations in the sport. RCR has accumulated a total of 17 championships and more than 200 victories across NASCAR’s top three series, including three Daytona 500 wins, and three Brickyard 400 victories.
The journey to Victory Lane is not easy, nor is it just a weekend effort. Success is found during the work week in a perpetual cycle of design improvement, engineering effort, and quick response manufacturing.
Vertical Manufacturing Solutions
Richard Childress Racing designs and builds race cars and engines from the ground up at its 15 building, 500,000 square foot campus. To ensure success, RCR became a fully-integrated manufacturing organization to design, manufacture, and assemble the 3,500 parts required to build race cars. This vertical approach provides a broad set of capabilities to handle complex manufacturing requirements for external customers.

CNC Machining
Richard Childress Racing specializes in complex machined components where tolerance and finish are critical. We utilize the latest machining technologies to produce high quality, on-demand parts. We use a variety of materials in billet form and machine parts from castings and forgings.
Typical tolerances range from +/-0.001″ to +/-0.005″ for metal and +/-.002″ to +/- .010″ for plastic, depending on customer requirements.
Machined Materials, Secondary Processes, and Equipment
Metal Fabrication. Sheet Metal. Structural. Weldments.
RCR’s build tolerances consistently reach .030” over a 196” system. It’s our well-ordered vertical process controls that allow us to maintain the quality, consistency, and repeatability through the entire system build. The process includes a strong emphasis on metrology. We use a combination of the Metris IGPS factory floor inspection system, Romer Absolute Arm system, Blue Light 3D scan, and a Laser scanner to measure 100% of the critical dimensions for internal and external customer projects.

Design & Build, Build-to-Print Mechanical & Electromechanical Assemblies
Whether we’re building race cars or components and assemblies for external customers, engineering plays a critical role in the success of the project. Design processes range from conceptual engineering to detailed design for manufacturing. With 50 mechanical and electrical engineers and ten quality engineers, we’re poised to design a solution for the most complex manufacturing environment and system type. Our experience runs the gambit, including ground systems, weapon systems, and aerospace components.
RCR’s race cars have more than 3,500 parts that must fit together to exact specifications. Even the slightest misalignment can mean catastrophic failure. Attention to detail is one of the many traits our assembly specialists have but understanding both the what and the why is the real difference maker. RCR team members take the time to understand how their job function interfaces with the entire system, providing additional quality checks to the build. For external customers, the same rigorous methods are utilized.
World-class Quality Systems
At Richard Childress Racing, quality is a proactive, continuous process. We have a well-established Quality Management System to manage the flow of information to ensure we consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
To help ensure the quality of our parts and assemblies, Richard Childress has partnered with Zeiss, a leading manufacturer of multidimensional metrology solutions. These include coordinate measuring machines, optical and multisensory systems, and metrology software for the automotive, aircraft, mechanical engineering, plastics, and medical technology industries. Our internal quality systems are equivalent to ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100 certifications.
Richard Childress Racing provides all the documentation necessary to satisfy the largest aerospace, defense or other high-tech manufacturers including first article inspection reports, material certifications, certificates of conformance, and more.
